Helena Caldeira

_ ABALAR is the debut album of actress Helena Caldeira (widely recognised for her role in the Netflix series, Rabo de Peixe), and Portuguese singer. In this record the artist draws on her background in theatre and film, as well as on her roots, bringing forward stories of women who worked in the fields and were left alone to care for their families, shaping these narratives into the foundation of each song. Every song is conceived as a short story.

The first single, “Vizinhas”, produced by FOQUE, is an ode to Women, to the Countryside, and to Alentejo. It pays tribute to cultural heritage and calls for a return to one’s origins. The artist takes on the vocals, lyrics, and composition, as well as directing the short film, in which she stars alongside actress Isabela Valadeiro. The film reflects the words sung by Helena Caldeira, highlighting the female image and the vastness of Alentejo, from past to present.

ABALAR seeks to tell the stories and preserve the traditions of rural women’s practices, using cante as its vehicle and contemporaneity as its provocation. It aims to celebrate the female voice and tradition, only then to break away from them.
